A statue on the Alexandre III Bridge with the Eiffel Tower in the background.

From many parts of the city, you can see the Eiffel Tower sticking up through the surroundings to help orient yourself in the city. Naturally, there will be future photos of the Eiffel Tower to come. For now, I draw your attention to the growing scourge of European tourist sites. Notice the small group of colored padlocks at the base of the statue. These are appearing more and more at landmarks around Europe. Known as "love locks", an infatuated pair of kids unwittingly pretend that their love is everlasting by placing locks labeled with their names on any location that will accommodate them. More to come about this shortly in a future post.
