A cycle rickshaw driver offers a quick glance in busy downtown traffic.

Much like the Indian economy, these cycle rickshaws have only one gear - slowly forward. In order to start the cycle in motion, the driver often heavily plants one foot on a pedal while pulling on the handlebars to help create an even greater downward force. Slight inclines are lost causes. The driver simply dismounts the cycle and pushes the rickshaw manually. As a result, cycle rickshaws doubly follow the laws of physics - a cycle rickshaw in motion tends to stay in motion. A cycle rickshaw at rest tends to stay at rest ... in anticipation of a more lucrative fare. I believe that's a direct quote from Newton.

In a nation striving towards full industrialization (read: polluting), it's nice to see cycle rickshaws roaming the streets powered only by the food in the drivers' stomachs (read: slightly less polluting).
