Old street lights outside the famed, Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

The mob of people stretching down the front of the Notre Dame cathedral is the incredibly long queue to enter the church. Lines for Paris' major tourist attractions all seemed to be of similar interminable length. When I was here in August, 14 years ago, there was nary a line for these things. It's a bad sign of things to come as the world continues to generate more and more middle-class people. Go traveling now while it's still feasible, people!!!

A long queue of tourists (right) wait to enter the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

I shudder at the thought that the vast majority of these people are here because of the fame this cathedral achieved as a result of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame cartoon and not necessarily because of the historical significance of the church.
