New Year's Eve Fireworks commence at the Petronas Towers. Visible in the distance is the Menara KL, a communications tower cum tourist attraction.
I've left India for the modern comforts of Kuala Lumpur and the wide availability of beef and pork and beef and pork by-products. I've come to Southeast Asia to take a small vacation from my travels and enjoy a beach or 2 in Thailand with my girlfriend. Scoff not, my friends. It appears that I'm on a continuous vacation but in fact, traveling, photographing and maintaining this site has turned into a slightly stressful full-time job, although, fortunately, one that I love doing. However, it does require that I occasionally put down my camera and laptop and relax my overworked lower back.
The publish date of this photo is conspicuous for obvious reasons. Because of the lack of internet in many locations, I maintain a buffer of pre-prepared images in order to release a new photo on a daily basis even when I'm away from "civilization". On new year's eve, I'd posted some India images I'd taken in mid-December, hence actual events photographed on new year's eve were delayed until the end of January. I decided to leave my India photo stream uninterrupted and publish this photo today despite its obvious chronological misplacement.
Midway through new year's eve fireworks at the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur's City Center.
It took me half a day to scout this location taking into consideration a suitable background and inclusion of fireworks that were said to come from "somewhere over there". I arrived at 10pm to find the area overflowing with locals and amateur photographers. Apparently it's the place to be for the best view of the fireworks. If you find yourself in KL, take the subway to the Ampang stop and walk down the minor street across from the mall to get to a large open space seen above.
