After a few days of water fighting during Songkran, I joined some friends for a mini-vacation to an island just 5 hours away from Bangkok. Generally, the sand is less light on the islands in the Gulf of Thailand and hence, the water is less crystal clear but the setting is serene, nonetheless. With monsoon season slowly ramping up, it seemed everyone appreciated the mostly sunny weather which was interrupted only by small bursts of rain. However, the relaxation portion of the outing couldn't be beat, especially because our bodies were noticeably weary after running around Bangkok for a few days engaged in full-day water fighting action.

Low season meant there were far fewer tourists on this stretch of beach called, "Lonely Beach." Ko Chang is a massive and well-developed island which tends to have less crowds than the picture perfect postcard beaches of the islands on the Sea of Andaman. Ko Chang makes for a perfect getaway for those that live in Bangkok and need to escape the chaos of the city for a few days.
