A lone female vegetable shopper browses the boats' selections at the floating vegetable market.
I love the forced grin on this woman's face and her battle to remain on equal footing among a sea of men. In male-dominated areas such as Kashmir, a woman is often the object of pity if she is without a spouse who validates her existence. And so I was informed, "very sad" by our boatman who referenced our subject and said "no husband". Judging by the lack of women at the floating market, the incredibly difficult task of procuring morning vegetables is the exclusive domain of the less fair sex.
Archive photos (on the weekend) continues. As promised last week, I will devote some weekends to releasing a hidden trove of Kashmir images for weekend archived photos.
A sea of male boatmen that dominate trade at the floating vegetable market.

A Kashmiri man makes a not-so-subtle move on a female tourist.
Evidently, women serve at least one purpose in the lives of Kashmiri men.
